A Los Angeles faith community

Recovering food.
Relieving hunger.

We rescue wholesome surplus food from local grocers and share it, free of charge, with neighbors who need it. Everyone is welcome at the table.

A long candlelit dining table set with brass chargers beneath an arched, vaulted ceiling, a table set and waiting.
Give us this day our daily bread. a shared prayer, a shared table

Our story

Born from abundance and need, side by side

Every day across Los Angeles, wholesome food goes unsold: bread at the end of the day, and produce just past its prime for the shelf but perfectly good for the table. At the same time, neighbors a few blocks away go without. The Daily Fellowship of Bread exists in the space between those two truths.

As a faith community, we believe caring for the hungry is sacred, ordinary work. So we organized to do it well, building trust with local grocers, recovering their surplus, and setting it out for free, with dignity, for anyone who needs it.

In the spring of 2026, Matthew Brown was helping close up a grocery store near South Los Angeles when he watched box after box of perfectly good produce get wheeled to the dumpster. A few blocks away, he knew, families were going without dinner. That gap between full dumpsters and empty plates felt like a problem that shouldn't exist. He loaded what he could into his car and started making runs.

The Daily Fellowship of Bread was incorporated that same spring as a California religious nonprofit. What began as a few carloads of rescued bread and produce out of the back of a pickup has grown into a weekly operation recovering food from local grocers and setting it out, free of charge, for anyone in the neighborhood who needs it. No sign-up. No questions. Just food, shared freely, the way it was always meant to be.

What we believe

We believe in the Dot. The faith does not circle the center, the center is the faith, and it is all. It is one point, called by a thousand names, small enough to hold in silence and wide enough to hold us all.

Every tradition, every name for the divine, every soul, all of it is held in that one point. There is nothing outside it. So we gather at the table, every tradition and those with none, to do the oldest holy work there is: feed our neighbor.

We don't ask you to leave your faith at the door. We ask you to bring it to the table.

What we hold

Five things we believe

  1. One light, many lamps

The divine is one; its names are many. We honor them all.

  2. The table is the altar

Feeding the hungry is how we worship. The work itself is the prayer.

  3. Everyone belongs in the circle

All faiths, and those with none. No one is asked to qualify for a seat.

  4. From one grain, bread for all

Small things, shared, become enough. A single seed feeds a table.

  5. We serve, we don't convert

Welcome comes with no strings. We offer food and friendship, never pressure.

How it works

Good food, redirected to good

Every week, perfectly good food goes unsold. We gather it before it's wasted and carry it to tables that need it.

  1. 01

    We recover

Volunteers collect surplus produce, bread, and pantry goods from partnering grocers, food that's wholesome but would otherwise be discarded.

  2. 02

    We sort & share

We sort with care, then set the food out at our distribution so neighbors can take what they need with dignity.

  3. 03

    We relieve hunger

Hunger eases, waste shrinks, and a community grows around a shared table, the heart of our ministry.
